How do I stop a virtual desktop.

login using putty and type vncserver -kill :1 (1 being your desktop number)

Why cant I run more than one virtual desktop.

We have limited resources that is shared amongst other members. To run more than one virtual desktop would just be mean!

What about security

What about it? your desktop is contained behind a firewall which requires two passwords to be accessed. Also all data being sent and recieved from the server is encrypted when using the tunnel!

I have a question about the virtual desktops who do I ask?

First consult google! you will find your response will be much quicker coming from a server than an admin!

Netsoc is NOT to be used for your offical college work. However you are welcome to use our service for your research and non directly related material.

I cant access the internet using netscape/firefox etc etc in my virtual desktop

That is probably because your proxy is not setup correctly. Your proxy should be set to use 147.252.127.8 port 3128, this will then prompt you for your netsoc username and password.

Why cant I ssh out or get access to some college servers

For security purposes you are only allowed ssh in and out of the servers within DIT.

Why am I stuck with [xxx] window manager

Your not there are several window managers to choose from. Just google around to see how to change it
